Public Transit
When navigating San Francisco via public transportation, Muni will likely serve as your primary mode of transit. However, the city offers several transit agencies to choose from. Most buses and light rail systems operate every 10-12 minutes, depending upon the route. We recommend using the Transit app, as described below, to plan your trips efficiently. More information here: Muni, SamTrans, Bart
MUNI, SAMTRANS, BART, AND MORE
All Bay Area transit agencies use clipper to pay fares. Simply download the Clipper App to your phone and you can use your mobile device to pay your fares all around the Bay Area. More information here: Clipper Guide
CLIPPER
The Transit app provides you with real-time public transit arrival times. This app allows you to plan your trips and gives you step-by-step directions to your destinations. It is sort of like Google Maps but for all things public transportation. More information here: Transit App

Rideshare Apps
San Francisco offers an array of rideshare apps for transportation needs. With Uber and Lyft, wait times are typically 5-10 minutes at any time of day. It's worth noting that the transportation costs to campus may vary depending on your location within the city, ranging between approximately $10 and $35
PICK THE APP THAT WORKS FOR YOU!
Most apps allow you to put Humanities Building as the destination. If the app does not give you the option, use the following address to take you directly to the building:

Near SFSU/Daly City
In terms of food, there's nothing really walkable in the area (Daly City is a bit more industrial than San Francisco proper). But, there's places via Uber nearby such as the Serramonte Center which is just a 5 minute drive or 25 minute bus ride away.
Food
SamTrans route 122 (purple line on the map) takes you directly to campus. The Washington St/90th stop is a 7 minute walk from the hotel. Then hop off the 122 at Merced/Font Blvd which is a 10 minute walk from the Humanities Building. The Daly City BART station, located 1.2 miles away, also provides transportation directly to SFSU via the MUNI 28 Bus (yellow line on the map). From Daly City Station, you can also take BART to downtown SF (red line on the map). Rideshare is always an option. The drive lasts approximately 10 minutes and the price is usually between $10 to $20.

If you're staying Downtown, it's best to stay north of the Tenderloin District as it separates the "okay" and "not-so-okay" areas of the city. The north is safe, but south of the Tenderloin, you should be mindful of your surroundings and avoid the "tourist look."
A bit of advice...
Downtown San Francisco
Hotels are plentiful near Union Square, which is located about 10 miles from the SFSU campus. While they may be more expensive than in other areas, being in the heart of the city offers easy access to many restaurants, tourist attractions, and walkable streets (if you don't mind the occasional hill or two). This area is closest to main attractions such as Pier 39; Fisherman's Wharf; Ghirardelli Square; Ferry Building; Coit Tower; Chinatown; North Beach; etc.
food
In terms of transportation, there are a few different ways to approach staying in this area. The drive from downtown to the SFSU campus will be approximately $30-$35 for an UberX (up to 35 minutes of travel time). You can also use public transportation. In terms of getting from the downtown area to the SFSU campus, the MUNI light-rail system stops run along Market Street. You can travel from downtown all the way to SFSU's campus on the M Line (green line on the map going westbound). Taking the MUNI to the campus from downtown is about $3.

This is technically a different city from SF, but it's still close to our campus. This area has a ton of hotels. It's near the airport, so there's a wide selection of places to stay. Just Google "South San Francisco Hotels" and click on the map and you'll see a bunch near the airport.
South San Francisco Area
South San Francisco
In terms of food, there's tons of stuff nearby. Plenty within walking distance. Nice views of the inner Bay.
Food
In terms of transportation, it's so close to the airport I'd just take a quick Uber/Lyft. The drive to campus would last about 15-20 minutes depending on traffic. It is possible to get to campus using public transit (use the red line then transfer to green/yelllow line on map) but it is about a 1 hour commute so Rideshare is your best option.
